The Stars My Destination
One of the best books I've read, and I've read a good deal. Take an unlikable protagonist, an epic quest, mix in the ability to teleport, and you have a great read. Not to mention Alfred Bester's penchant for psychedelic prose (he won the first Hugo award for the Demolished Man), and you have one of trippiest endings in sci-fi.Highly recommended.
